Our Core Values

The Baptist Church of Hadley has been proclaiming the good news of the gospel of Christ for generations. Our roots go back to the founding of our church in the pioneer days of the 1830's (read more here.) Though much has changed in the last 170 years, the gospel is the same. Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners. The Bible teaches that "all have sinned and come short of the glory of God."(Romans 3:23) Jesus Christ went to the cross to make the all-sufficient sacrifice for sin so men could be reconciled to God. Through faith in Christ there is forgiveness, peace, joy, and the promise of heaven. This is the good news.

We’re confident that the clear Bible teaching and preaching, hymns of praise to God, and friendly warmth of our church will be such a blessing to you that you will come back again and again.

  • We believe that the Holy Bible was written by men supernaturally inspired and that it is truth without any admixture of error for its matter. It is, and shall remain to the end of the age, the only complete and final revelation of the will of God to man. It is the true center of Christian union, and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and opinions should be tried.

    * By the HOLY BIBLE we mean that collection of sixty-six books, from Genesis to Revelation, which, as originally written does not only contain and convey the Word of God, but IS the very Word of God. Deuteronomy 4:2, 8:3, Psalm 119:160, Proverbs 30:5-6, Matthew 4:4, Romans 15:4, Revelation 1:1-3, 22:18-19

    * By INSPIRED we mean that the books of the Bible were written by holy men of old, as they were moved by the Holy Spirit, in such a definite way that their writings were supernaturally and verbally inspired, and free from error, as no other writings have ever been or ever will be inspired. II Timothy 3:16-17, II Peter 1:19-21, Matthew 5:18, Isaiah 8:20

    * While we recognize that there are other accurate translations of the Bible, our standard for preaching, teaching, and memorizing will be the King James Version of the Bible.

  • We believe in one God, Creator of heaven and earth, inexpressibly glorious in holiness and worthy of all possible honor, confidence and love, eternally existing in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

    Genesis 1:1, 1:27, Isaiah 40:28, John 14:26, 15:26, II Corinthians 13:14, Matthew 28:19, I Peter 1:2, Revelation 4:11

  • We believe that Jesus Christ is God incarnate who became flesh, being conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life and died on the cross, shedding His blood that sinful men might be justified by faith in Him. He rose from the dead on the third day, ascended to heaven, and now sits on the right hand of the Father making intercession for us. His return to gather His church is imminent.

    Matthew 1:20-21, I Peter 1:18-19, Romans 5:9, John 1:1-3, 14, Isaiah 7:14, II Corinthians 5:21, Hebrews 4:15, I Corinthians 15:4, Acts 1:9-11, Hebrews 1:3

  • We believe that the Holy Spirit is a divine Person, equal with God the Father and God the Son. He was active in the creation of the world. He restrains the evil one in this present age. He convicts of sin, of judgement, and of righteousness; and He bears witness to the Truth of the Gospel in preaching and testimony. He is the agent of the New Birth. He seals, endues, guides, teaches, sanctifies, and helps the believer.

    Genesis 1:1-3, John 14:26, 15:8-13, II Thessalonians 2:1-8, Ephesians 4:30

  • We believe in the literal Genesis account of creation. All living things were made directly by God, and God's established law is that they should bring forth only "after their kind."

    Genesis 1:1-25, John 1:3

  • We believe that man was created in the image of God, that he sinned and thereby incurred not only physical death, but also spiritual death which is separation from God; and that all human beings are sinners by nature and choice.

    Genesis 1:26-28, 3:1-19, Romans 5:12, 3:23

  • We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, as a substitutionary sacrifice, and that all who by faith receive Him as their personal Savior are justified on the ground of His blood, shed on the cross of Calvary, and thereby are saved and become the children of God.

    John 3:16, Romans 8:1, 5:1, I Corinthians 15:1-4, Ephesians 2:8-9, John 1:12

  • We believe in two bodily resurrections of all the dead - the saved to eternal life and blessedness, and the unsaved to eternal conscious torment and woe.

    John 3:16, 5:28, II Peter 3:7, Jude 13, Revelation 14:11, 20:5, 11-15

  • We believe that Satan was once known as Lucifer and enjoyed heavenly honors; but through pride he fell and drew after him a host of angels. He is now the malignant prince of the power of the air, and the unholy god of this world. He is man's tempter, the enemy of God and Christ, the accuser of the saints, the deceiver and the father of lies. He is destined to final defeat by the power of God and will be cast into the lake of fire forever, the place prepared for him and his angels. It is the duty of the believer to resist the devil.

    Isaiah 14:12-15, Matthew 25:41, Ephesians 2:2, James 4:7, I Peter 5:8, Revelation 12:9, 20:10

  • We believe that the local church is composed of baptized believers who voluntarily unite together for worship, fellowship, growth, and service. We believe the Lord gave two ordinances to the church to observe "till He come"(I Cor. 11:26). The first of these is baptism by immersion, demonstrating publically one's obedience to Christ's command and showing one's identification with Jesus Christ in His death, burial and resurrection to newness of life. The second is the Lord's Table. We believe that the Lord's Table, also called the Lord's Supper or Communion, is the commemoration of His death until He comes, and should be preceded always by solemn self-examination.

    Matthew 28:19-20, Colossians 1:18, Romans 6:3-5, I Corinthians 11:2, 23-26
